The Fagaras Mountains Natura 2000 site is home to the largest and most valuable cluster of primary and old growth forests in Romania. There are still wild, pathless valleys here. Here it still looks the same as it did 6000 years ago, when the beech and fir forests returned after the last ice age. 

A magnificent forest and mountain wilderness of a size and unspoilt nature that can otherwise only be found in Europe in Scandinavia.

However, marked hiking trails lead into some of the wilderness valleys. Here you can safely explore the fascinating forest wilderness...

Exploring Arpasu Mare Valley
